This online e-book about dog kennel plans shows readers the exact dimensions they need to build the doghouse and the kennel enclosure. You only need a few tools to complete this project. Common tools you will need are a handsaw, drill, and hammer.

These are the recommended steps to build a dog kennel:

1) Where do you want to put your dog kennel? Inside or outside? You can use existing walls for dog kennel in the basement or garage. If the dog house will be outside then you could use the side of a shed as well or tie it into the garage. Now is the time to consider if a building will give shade – or a tree will. Think about which direction the wind comes from for the dog house door. How many dogs will your dog kennel accommodate? Don’t forget room for dogs to get in and out and the door clearance.

2) Select your dog kennel plans. Pick from the multiple professionally designed dog kennel plans are included. You can mix and match a dog house with a kennel fence outline depending on your needs. Maybe you want 2 or 3 dog houses and a larger enclosure. There are many plans to pick from.

3) Material selection. This is where you can really customize your dog kennel. If you want to keep costs low you can select from rough cut wood or from a seconds store. Or you could buy material that will last a long time like a metal roof for the dog house. You could also match the materials to the other exterior materials on your house and have it really fit right in. Ventilation and insulation need to be considered here for keeping your pooch cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

4)  Get the materials. The plans come with a “build list” so you can go to the store and put everything on the cart and be done with it. Some places even deliver if your order is large enough. You can also recycle other materials or use items that you have stored in your garage.

5)  Build the dog kennel plans. The step by step guide has excellent diagrams and illustrations. This e-book can be printed out or you can do it one page at a time. In just a few hours you will have a sturdy doghouse and a dog kennel for your dog.

Dog Kennel Plans

Dog Kennel Plans that are easy to follow and have great step by step instructions can be found at the site above. When building a doghouse you need to have the right tools. That’s really the two elements to a dog kennel – the doghouse and then the fence around it. A roof too, depending on if you want it or not. As you can see from the pictures I have two Golden Retrievers. One is younger and full of energy and the other is much more relaxed. So the doghouse will be occupied by Duke most of the time and Dakota will be running around the enclosure. As you can see I needed the best of both worlds and there was a design for that in the dog kennel plans ebook.

The doghouse for me only needed to have one entrance, but I wanted a “doggie door” style as we get some snow and some brisk winds up here in New York. That was an easy option to put on. Also the roof needed to be steep for the snow load and I wanted to extend a little porch on the side so there was some shade from the sun in the summer. The walls I did put animal safe insulation and put up an interior wall. We put some cork board in the bottom of the doghouse for insulation from the ground and the elements, and then we put down a blanket and then two dog beds. The pass through dog door is a smoked plastic so it lets the light in.

The Kennel part of the dog kennel plans was a chain link fence. Since the load is not that of a deck I was able to use my posthole digger and some 8 foot steel poles. I put them 2 feet in the ground and then surrounded it with the fence. Dakota does like to jump and put her paws up on the fence – so it moves a bit but the posts for the kennel don’t. I didn’t know how to build a dog kennel and now I am going to help my buddy in the spring do one for him! He is thinking about a few ideas from the dog kennel plans ebook and then we’ll be off to the hardware store. With a few friends and some basic tools you can build a dog kennel in an afternoon. I would not recommend it in poor weather, unless you have a large garage. It’s a great project with the kids and teaches them responsibility they need to show to the dogs. If you can get your dog kennel in the shade that might be for the best – then you will not need to build an additional roof off of the doghouse. Some thoughts for your dog kennel plans!
